Course overview

Why should you take it?

Overtaking can be risky. It can lead to unsettling near misses and, worse still, serious high-speed collisions.

Staying safe is not just about patience and good judgement, it’s also about understanding that different road types and conditions that require you to react differently. You also need to consider what you’re overtaking. Cyclists, horses and other vulnerable road users present a different challenge to cars and lorries, for example.

Our one-to-one expert coaching will provide you with an easy-to-follow set of guidelines. This will give you the confidence to make the right judgement at the right time, helping to keep you and your family safe.

What can you expect?

Take this session whenever and wherever suits you best. Our friendly expert will start the 75-minute session by quickly running through what you’ll be covering. If there’s something specific about overtaking you’d like help with, simply let our expert know and they’ll be delighted to include that in your training.

You’ll then head out in your own car to learn about overtaking. The session is designed to help you develop your observation, anticipation and planning skills and your decision-making. You’ll also learn to identify when it is safe and legal to overtake, leaving nothing to chance.

By the end, you’ll have picked up new skills and knowledge to make you a more confident driver when overtaking.

Structure

Purchase your module and arrange a session to suit you

Our customer care team will assign you an instructor and contact you to arrange a suitable time and place for your session.

Meet your instructor and prepare for your drive

You will attend the session in your own vehicle. Every on-road session begins with essential eyesight and vehicle checks. And don't forget your driving licence! 

Take to the road for your module session

Your instructor will take you to an area appropriate for the module subject and observe your driving, identifying areas of focus and offering helpful hints.

Discussion of your areas for development, and tips on how you can improve your skills
